Follow the personal, physical and committed adventure
of a father and his two eldest sons on the Transpyrenean Route.

How the project began: A spark amongst friends

Those who follow our work as photographers and filmmakers are familiar with our quest for human and inspiring stories. But this time, the adventure is also close to our hearts, as Guillaume and Peggy and their three children are our friends, and we have the privilege of filming a wonderful family adventure amidst majestic natural landscapes.

When Guillaume told us about the slightly mad project he and his two eldest sons had planned – to cross the Pyrenees on foot along the Transpyrénéenne route in forty days, from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic – we were immediately enthusiastic. Even more so when we learnt that this adventure had been initiated by Gaspard (17), the youngest, who had also drawn his older brother Lucas (18) into the adventure. He wanted to relive this trek with his father – a journey he’d already completed in 2002 and which had left a deep mark on his youth. But it’s the whole Krief family who are passionate about this project: whilst the three men follow the ridges and conquer one peak after another, Peggy, their mum, and Sven, the youngest son, are living and supporting this adventure intensely, albeit from a distance.

As filmmakers, we sensed straight away that, beyond the immense physical challenge posed by this rugged yet spectacular diagonal crossing, a powerful and deeply human story was unfolding: a story of passing on traditions, of family bonds that are forged and strengthened through shared effort, and of the raw emotions that only the mountains can bring to the surface.

We have already captured the first half of this journey: magnificent, untamed landscapes and heartfelt moments. But to bring the story to its conclusion and follow the second part of the crossing, we need your support.

You can currently follow the progress of the crossing on the trio’s PolarStep.

OUR MOTIVATION

Using the beauty of the image

to tell a story

rich in meaning and emotion

SYNOPSIS

Three men, forty days, and the entire Transpyrenean route.

Far from the comforts of everyday life, they will learn to live together in a different way, in tune with the daily stages, their emotions and their physical condition. The kilometres become conversations; the difficulties, opportunities to reflect on themselves as individuals and as a family, to help one another, but also to listen to their own needs.

Beyond the physical challenge, this journey is also a period of transition: for two young men seeking independence, a 60-year-old father, and a family relationship that is being redefined through exertion, fatigue and the passage of time. The mountains become a learning ground, where each person seeks their place and their own way forward.

Alongside this main narrative, other themes will emerge naturally.

Guillaume’s ketogenic lifestyle, his approach to managing energy on such a demanding trek, his osteopath’s perspective on the body in motion and daily self-care, as well as the vital role of water in the mountains, all enrich the experience. Meanwhile, the two teenagers are torn between a desire to perform, a thirst for adventure and a wish to disconnect from everyday life. Guillaume, Gaspard and Lucas do not simply walk side by side; they also film their own adventure, which will complement our own filming on sections where we are not present.

Beyond the trek itself, this documentary explores the way we live. What can we learn from walking together for forty days, far from the frenetic pace of our modern lives? How does this experience shed light on our relationship with our bodies, health, food, nature, technology and essential resources such as water?

GUILLAUME

Guide & Mentor

As he approaches his 60th birthday and marks 20 years of marriage to Peggy, this osteopath devotes his life to health, his family, physical activity and nature. Always on the lookout for new approaches to healthcare, he views this new journey as a profoundly transformative experience, whatever the outcome. He is the backbone of a unique human adventure shared with his two eldest sons.

LUCAS

Conquering the Peaks

Lucas, aged 18, has discovered a passion for mountaineering: he is increasingly driven by a love of the high mountains, which he hopes to explore in Switzerland and around the world. At the same time, he maintains close social ties with his circle of friends. Whilst he keeps his talents as an artist in the back of his mind, he brings to the trio his strength and sense of discipline, which enable him to set the pace for this adventure, navigate the terrain and also contribute his aesthetic sensibility to the photos and videos.

GASPARD

Adventurer & Dreamer

At just 17 years old, Gaspard already has the soul of an adventurer. Whilst he demonstrates his physical strength as an excellent climber—both on natural rock and in the climbing gym—he channels his imagination and sensitivity into writing a fantasy novel. Will this crossing of the Pyrenees prove to be the most tangible of his coming-of-age stories? With his ability to combine strength and gentleness, and always ready with a compliment or a word of encouragement, he is the glue that holds the family and social bonds together during this expedition.

A shared adventure

Driven by the urgency of this adventure, we’ve already laced up our hiking boots and got the cameras out. We’ve filmed the first third of this journey. The first footage is here – magnificent and moving too – and we’re delighted to present our official teaser to you!

However, as independent professional filmmakers, producing a high-quality 50-minute documentary requires significant financial resources, and this is where you can help.

What is

this campaign intended to fund?

Today, we would like to launch a fundraising campaign that will enable us to continue filming and return to the field with them to document the final stage of this journey. This campaign will fund a vital part of the film’s production.

Our initial target is set at 5’400 EUR / 5’000 CHF, which will cover only the minimum logistical costs of the shoot.

If we exceed this target, the funds will be used to finance our days in the field, as well as the essential stages of the final edit (colour grading, sound mixing, music licensing, subtitling, etc.). It will also enable us, as directors, to recognise the value of the months of work and creativity that have gone into this project.

Where can we watch

the film?

We have big ambitions for this project. We hope to complete the editing by the end of 2026 and will be contacting our producer straight away to explore distribution opportunities with television channels and documentary platforms. Our aim is to give this film the best possible reach (television, festivals, etc.).

If it is not broadcast through these channels, we will make it available to as many people as possible via rental on our YouTube and Vimeo channels.

By joining us on this journey now, and

whatever the amount of your donation,

you will be the driving force that enables us

to see this film through to the very end.

Every contribution counts, no matter how small.

Our REWARDS as a mark of our gratitude
